I was recently asked by Chairish.com to put together a post about what I feel the essentials are for an organized and stylish bar cart. Ironic coming from a 9 month pregnant chick, but this has actually been tons of fun.
So here's what I've created! I decided to go with an Autumn theme, because I think what I'm missing most right now are those delicious, warm, cuddly, {alcoholic} beverages of fall. I will live vicariously through this Autumn themed style board, and probably just ask to smell your drink a few times so I can pretend to partake.
Who wants a Hot Buttered Apple Cider? Apple Brandy Hot Toddy? I'll just take a little glass of Pumpkin Punch and cuddle in a corner.
Ok, let's break down the essentials, in no particular order.
Ice Bucket/Cooler
Ice is so crucial to a cocktail party. Have you ever been to a party when the ice has run out? Umm everyone should just go home now. While we typically rely on our ice maker, it is so much more convenient to have everything you need for your drink all in the same place. And this little pumpkin ice bucket is just about the cutest thing ever.
You can also make your own!
Shaker
I'll be honest, when I drink I rarely use the shaker. However, if I'm feeling fancy and want to make that delicious beverage, I am so glad we have the shaker. One of the things I love about this particular shaker is it comes with the recipes right along the side!
Decanter
A skull decanter is about as good as it gets when it comes to an autumn bar cart. I love using decanters. They provide a clean and stylish look to any bar.
I'm also mildly obsessed with this vintage green decanter from Chairish. I probably need to have it since I can think of more reasons why I should have a green decanter versus why I shouldn't {Autumn, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Arbor Day... I could go on}
Bar tools
We have probably all experienced that moment when you go to open a bottle of wine and realize no one brought the corkscrew. Or you realized you've purchased non-twist off beer and can't find an opener. Bar tools are about as necessary as the booze itself.
Pitcher
I love the idea of having a themed drink for the evening. It can be a bit difficult if your guests all prefer different drinks, so before mixing it up be sure it will be consumed. Having a pitcher filled with a premixed drink, or mixers, can also help keep the bar area free of too many bottles, saving space for the next items on my list.
Decorations
Placing simple flowers or decorations around the bar cart can actually make the space more welcoming {if the booze wasn't enough to get people there}. Don't overdo it with too many though, make sure there's still plenty of space for the drinks. I really love the idea of a small chalkboard sign with different drink recipes listed as well.
Garnishes
Although they're not pictured in the style board, garnishes are another essential in my opinion. Setting them in small Rankin dishes or across a tray is perfect. For fall drinks, I love a drink with a little touch of orange, cinnamon, or apple.
Glasses
You can always just put your face under the spout of a pitcher, but it's typically more socially acceptable to carry a glass {I know, how boring}. I am not one who sticks to the idea that certain drinks can only be consumed out of certain glasses. When hosting, I prefer to use one type of glass from which most drinks can be enjoyed. I typically try to go for glasses that are dishwasher safe and won't easily get knocked over.
While I love the look of the Moscow Mule mugs, it's highly unlikely that you'd see one in our cabinets. I really, really like using a dishwasher after hosting, so until I can find a set that doesn't require hand washing I'll just adore them from afar.
For wine drinkers, stemless wine glasses are a blessing. These confetti glasses make me want to cartwheel with a drink in my hand {can we all just stop and picture this. 9 months pregnant, cartwheel, holding this glass without spilling. I hope there was a slight chuckle}.
Speaking of glasses... This year I've gotten a little creative with mason jars. I know, just slightly late to that party. In addition to being a great decorating piece, they are the perfect hosting glass as well.
To add a little character to the Mason Jars, consider sticking a chalkboard label on each glass. Guests can write their names to keep track of their drink, or a fun little message.
The great thing about these is the chalk can easily be erased and used for a new message for your next get together!
Booze
Last and certainly not least. Be sure your bar cart is stocked, or inform your guests to BYOB.
That's all for today! I hope you all have an amazing weekend and enjoy an autumn beverage {take a sip for me}.
