Happy New Year! I hope everyone had wonderful holiday
and took advantage of some time off. Whether you were relaxing, entertaining,
celebrating, or all of the above, I hope you took a deep breath and really just
enjoyed the moment.
2013 was BIG in the Sliger-Jones household. We celebrated the birth of Brit's niece, the 1st birthday of my niece, an engagement, an SPHR certification {kudos to my man!}, along with numerous graduations, engagements, weddings, and babies from our friends and family. So what's on the agenda for 2014? Well, most importantly, drop that Sliger in the household name by marrying my best friend {note: I will always be a proud Sliger, just no longer will receive mail under that name;) }.
This year we have several Organizing/DIY tricks up our sleeve {hopefully}. I use the word "we" because Brit got a much desired table saw for Christmas this year and we intend to take full advantage of it! No, we do not have a table saw in NYC, we're not that crazy... yet. His parents have been nice enough to store it at their place which is just a train ride away. So to bring in the new year, here's our New Year's Resolution {to-do} List:
The window seat: This one has been a long time coming, but now that Brit has his manly table saw, I see a window seat {doubling as storage of course} in our future! We have this awkward space below our bedroom window that we just haven't been able to figure out what to do with. We've looked and looked and looked for chairs, storage systems, benches, you name it, but nothing has really tickled our fancy. Well, not without doing some serious damage to our wallet. So we’re taking matters into our own hands and building our own. It will be our first big DIY furniture project so wish us luck!
The bedroom: My mother always said that your bedroom should be a haven. So why do I avoid spending time in mine? The space just isn't as comfy, cozy and enjoyable as the rest of the apartment. We thought that with a nice paint job we would love it, but when your main man is just a teensy weensy bit color blind, loves pastels, and is the one who will do most of the painting; it's difficult to compromise on the deep blue tones I was going for. Needless to say, addressing our nearly smurf blue room is project 2!
And project #3...
Our closets: We are so stinking blessed to have so much storage space in a NYC apartment that it almost feels sinful to have a space with no purpose. We have 2 closets {at least} that need a lot of lovin this year, and I am making it my resolution to give those spaces purpose, style, and a bit of organization.

While three projects may not seem like a lot for a year long to-do list, I assure you, there will be more. Blessing or curse, I can find inspiration and organization needs pretty much anywhere so there will be plenty of organizing and attempts at creativity coming your way! What kind of resolutions did you make this year? Is there a space in your home that you've been putting off for a while?
I hope you all had a wonderful 2013 and are looking forward to all of the adventures 2014 will bring. And for those of you in the North Eastern area, bundle up, hunker down, and get your hot chocolate and coziest blanket ready. Blizzards a comin'!
Thanks for visiting!
